Lights, Camera, Action

Yesterday I worked from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. helping with the start of our commercial shoot for work. Around 7 p.m. I knew I was (a) never meant to work for 14 hours a day and (b) I was never meant to work in production.

I have respect for these people and the job they do…it’s really amazing how they come from all areas (mainly in Texas for this shoot) and come together as a team. The director, producers, light and camera people all just seem to mesh together and get the job done.

After spending the day with them I learned that yes, I’m a Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. type of worker (ok, maybe I more like 8:30 .m. to 6:30 p.m.) and I like structure, I like time and I like being on time. Production doesn’t really work that way…at all.

It has me stressed through most of the day, which has caused me to eat cookies…I mean a lot of cookies. So if I ever thought when I was little that I wanted to be a director of commercials or movies, I now know that dream was never meant to be…ever.

Thank goodness for my journalism degree that I love and would never change. It gives me a sense of accomplishment knowing that I’m still enjoying my job and my college degree.
