I forgot how awesome it felt to be a kid. Yesterday I started my volunteer project with a 3rd grade class at a local elementary school. I will visit the same class five times within the next few weeks to teach them about our city. I’ve done this project once before and I really enjoyed it. It even ended with thank you notes from each kid…terrible spelling but super cute!
As I was going around the room letting everyone introduce themselves I asked them to tell me their name and a hobby. They were SO EXCITED to tell me what they were good at or what they enjoyed doing. You just don’t see that type of excitement at work on an everyday basis.
I was pretty shy as a kid, but when someone wanted to ask me a question about my dance class or about the book I was reading, I was all about giving them the necessary details to understand why my hobbies were soooo cool. Interacting with these kids yesterday took me back to that little kid excitement phase – which I’m not really sure why I ever left.
So I’m going to make a point to start really enjoying the little things because when it comes down to it the little things matter just as much (if not more) than some of the more significant events in our lives. Spend a moment and just take it all in and get excited about your post-grad life!
